Recruitment Advisory · Runs on the Board

Hire on evidence, not polish.

Runs on the Board is our fixed-fee, 8-week recruitment advisory engagement for growing businesses. We help you define the role, attract the right people and assess them on what they’ve actually done, so you hire someone who can do the job, not just describe it.

The problem

A polished CV tells you less than it used to.

With AI, a strong CV and a well-written cover letter take minutes to produce. Most hiring still leans on them, plus a good hour in an interview. But the people who present best aren’t always the people who do the best work, or the best fit for your team.

That gap is where a bad hire comes from. And the wrong person costs more than a salary.

Lost time
Team morale
Client confidence
Momentum

And the usual fix is expensive. Recruitment agencies typically charge 15 to 25% of the salary package when a candidate is placed, and some ask for an upfront retainer as well.

The philosophy

You don’t pick a player because their kit looks good.

You pick them based on runs on the board: what they’ve actually done. Good judges of talent have always worked this way, in sport and in business. We’ve built our recruitment advisory around the same idea, and at every stage we assess what a candidate has actually produced, how they’ve performed and how they’re likely to perform.

HIRING ON POLISH
A self-reported CV
A well-drafted, AI-generated cover letter
A good hour on interview day
Gut feel dressed up as a process
HIRING ON RUNS ON THE BOARD
What they’ve actually produced
How they’ve performed, and are likely to perform
Capability and fit with your team
A structured, defensible decision
The fee

A fixed fee. Not a percentage of the package.

We’re not a recruitment agency. No placement fee, no percentage of the salary package, no agency mark-up. One fixed fee covers the full 8-week engagement, so you always know what’s happening, when, and what it costs.

Indicative only, and all figures exclude GST. Australian agencies typically charge 15 to 25% of the annual salary package (base plus super) for a permanent placement, and each sets its own terms. The Runs on the Board fee excludes optional add-ons and advertising on your own Seek or other job board account. Runs on the Board is an advisory service: the hiring decision is yours, and a placement is not guaranteed.

How it works

Eight weeks. Three stages. One clear outcome.

Every stage draws on our advisory and people-strategy experience, and each one delivers something you can use. You make the calls only you can make, like who to hire. We set the strategy, guide the process and take the heavy lifting off your plate.

Role Scope & Definition

What do we actually need?

Most hiring mistakes start before an advert goes out. If the role isn’t clear, you can’t recognise the right person when they turn up, or explain to them why the job is worth having.

What’s included
A clear brief: what the business needs and what success in the role looks like
Market insight on the role before anything goes live
A position description built around the brief
Your employment contract checked as current and fit for purpose
STAGE 2

Recruitment & Attraction Strategy

How do we reach the right people?

By now your role is live and in market. We put our advisory and recruitment strategy experience to work getting it in front of candidates of real substance, not just collecting more CVs, and make sure your team is ready to assess them well.

What’s included
Your role live in market, with a targeted attraction and sourcing strategy agreed with you
An advert written to surface evidence, not polish
A session for your team on shortlisting and interviewing well, and compliantly
A Week 4 check-in on early results, with adjustments as needed
STAGE 3

Candidate Shortlisting & Selection

Who has the runs on the board?

This is where evidence beats polish. You make the call with a structured, defensible basis behind it, then give your new hire the best possible start.

What’s included
A shortlist assessed on what candidates have actually done
Interview preparation, with us in the room if you want us there
Reference checks, and support through the offer and contract
An essentials guide to getting your new hire on board smoothly in the first 90 days

The Week 4 check-in. Built in, at no extra cost.

Week 4 isn’t about having a hire. It’s about whether we’re attracting candidates, and the right ones. If early results say we’re not, we make adjustments as needed: the title, the level, the advert itself, or where it’s running.

Optional add-ons

Go further on the candidates who matter most.

Priced separately from the fixed fee, so you only pay for them where they’ll make a real difference.

DISC profiling

$250 + GST / candidate

Recommended for your final two. Shows what actually drives someone: motivators, behavioural style and how they operate under pressure. It sharpens a close call, then becomes the foundation for onboarding and later leadership coaching.

Leader and new-hire debrief

$350 + GST / session

For the successful candidate. A structured session with their manager, working through the DISC profile together, so the relationship starts with real understanding, not a guess.
